PUBLIC RELATIONS STRATEGIST

We're on the hunt for our next Public Relations Strategist who will lead our clients' public relations programs through traditional media relations, community relations and influencer relations efforts, while owning client relationships, as well! This is preferably a Houston-based role, but we will consider remote/hybrid candidates.
In this role, you will be accountable for:
Connecting staff with resources
Monitoring deadlines/holding team members accountable
Overseeing client satisfaction and client relationships
Gatekeeping scope and strategy
Showcasing value and results in order to retain and grow client accounts and attract new clients
Understanding client needs to pull in other managers into internal/external meetings
Ownership of some/most of clients' moving pieces and our internal team's solutions to these pieces
Developing strategies to achieve and/or exceed client goals
Executing media relations proactively and reactively
Executing influencer relations proactively and reactively
Executing community relations proactively and reactively
Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, media, influencers and partners
Consistently securing results for clients in order to grow month-over-month, quarter-over-quarter
Continuing education in order to retain current clients and attract new clients
Serving as expert on clients' key messages and PR opportunities
Key Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Client Relationship and Account Management: Serve as point person and account lead across four to six PR-focused or PR-heavy accounts
Fully understand and embrace the agency's core values surrounding providing excellence to clients through results-driven work and responsiveness
Ability to speak to and understand all the moving parts of Like Minds’ integrated strategy, including potential digital or marketing service lines
Develop and maintain strong client relationships
Lead internal and external client meetings on an ongoing or as-needed basis
Develop and distribute weekly status reports and/or meeting agendas
Work with team to develop quarterly measurement reports (or recap reports) and serve as final set of eyes, ensuring that all data is consistent across service lines and recommendations
Develop comprehensive, first draft of any/all strategy decks, campaign briefs and/or one-page strategic documents to ensure we are communicating our value to clients and delivering as promised
Responsible for project management/follow through on operational plan for team based on scope and client budget
Liaise between team members to facilitate open dialogue and collaboration that deliver comprehensive, strategy-aligned solutions to clients
Monitor when daily tasks and larger strategic initiatives stray away from both clients’ and agency’s missions
Media Relations Strategy & Execution: Responsible for the media relations strategy and execution for four to six clients, with support from Account Coordinator
Thorough knowledge and utilization of AP Style
Fully understand how to use all tools needed to do job effectively and carry out all tasks (Cision, TVEyes, Google Alerts, HARO, Compete, etc.) and train PR interns on these tools, when necessary
Develop strong understanding and create/maintain great relationships with targeted media via email, phone calls, social media and in-person meetings
Collaborate and contribute ideas in team brainstorms on campaigns and pitches for clients and promotions
Stay abreast of PR/media trends and contacts and relay information to team and determine how to best apply to clients; ongoing research to understand trends, relevant media members, markets and industries
Develop media relations campaign strategies as they relate to clients’ goals; work with digital counterpart to ensure they align with digital strategies; work with Head of PR and Client Accounts to ensure PR strategies align with clients’ larger goals and objectives
Stay up to date with all news relevant to targeted clients; spend 1-2 hours a week on maintaining strong familiarity with media, industry trends and current events and react appropriately to missed and new opportunities
Secure trade, national, local and/or regional coverage for all client accounts, following goals set out with clients and Supervisor
Actively attend client events and on-site liaison for coordinating details as necessary; create influencer/media/attendance list
Monitor competitor/industry media coverage and social media conversations about client topic and bring opportunities and trends to clients
Follow all media personalities and industry influencers on social media platforms and engage to develop and maintain strong personal relationships
Develop all PR-related materials, with assistance from Account Coordinator, and keep up to date and on server (including pitches, press releases, media lists, talking points, community opportunities, event collateral, bios, fact sheets, media kit, etc.)
Media outreach via phone, email, calendar listings, and media drops
Monitor and pitch to all appropriate HARO’s, Substacks and relevant reactive opportunities
Monitor editorial calendars for PR opportunities, and pitch as appropriate
Assist in and attend media interviews and photoshoots onsite – both the trusted resource for media and client along with Supervisor
Deliver photos and necessary follow-up materials to media outlets, as necessary from interview or event
Review all media coverage for accuracy, spelling, tone, etc.
Work with Account Coordinator to monitor and capture all news clippings, as it happens, and send to client; keep media coverage charts current
Community Relations Strategy & Execution: Responsible for the strategy and/or execution of community relations efforts for clients on two to four accounts, with support from Account Coordinator
Develop community relations campaign strategies as they relate to clients’ goals; work with digital counterpart to ensure they align with digital strategies; work with Head of PR and Client Accounts to ensure PR strategies align with clients’ larger goals and objectives
Seek out and secure strategic partners for mutually-beneficial cross promotional opportunities and awards
Research and develop community partnership opportunities
Coordinate details of community and client events and partnerships and ensure social media counterpart has copy on behalf of client for partners to post/share our message, if appropriate
Submit award documents, with assistance from Account Coordinator, and gather materials for submission
Influencer Relations Strategy & Execution: Responsible for the influencer relations strategy and execution for two to three clients, with support from Account Coordinator
Fully understand how to use all relevant influencer relations softwares and tools needed to do job effectively
Stay abreast of influencer relations trends and processes
Collaborate and contribute ideas in team brainstorms on influencer relations initiatives
Develop strategies for and execute all influencer relations deliverables, including but not limited to:
Development of influencer relations strategies that align with larger client goals and overall scope of service
Researching and building influencer lists
Developing and distributing influencer pitches and partnership asks emails (or correspondence via social media channels)
Developing influencer contracts and executing upon all relevant deliverables
Engaging with influencers via client social media channels, providing them with social media collateral/messaging/handles and/or working with relevant team members to execute upon any social media engagement
Tracking and reporting influencer relations results via monthly or quarterly measurement reports and/or real-time reports
Tracking and reporting expenses and budget
Building and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national influencers on behalf of agency and clientele
We want to hear from you if you have:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in public relations, influencer relations, community relations and/or strategic communications!
- Experience and comfort communicating with clients and serving as a "point person!"
- A solid track record of building and maintaining media and influencer relationships!
- Your eyes constantly scouting the next big public relations trend!
- Excellent writing capabilities and mastery of AP style!
- The chops to bring a strategic vision to life in partnership with an integrated team!
- Relationship-building prowess to connect with communities, networks and organizations in meaningful ways on behalf of clients!
- A knack for developing media relations and influencer relations strategies and content that incite action, specifically for and with mission-driven clientele!
