Public Relations Account Executive

This is a Houston-based, hybrid role.

Key Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Responsible for being a strong, contributing member of the account team, serving in execution role in 4-6 core accounts with media relations and/or community relations service lines

  1. Develop and maintain strong understanding of client industries, voices and goals

  2. Collaborate with team on ideas for strategy and tactics for all clients and execute related action items needed to move the needle for client growth across media relations, influencer relations and community relations service lines

  3. Responsible for measuring and analyzing metrics related to media relations, influencer relations and/or community relations for accounts for which you personally execute

  4. Provide interns with opportunities to grow and learn by assigning projects and working together on tasks so they can gain experience in PR

  5. Provide team members with PR campaigns, current pitches and media lists so they are able to communicate with the correct social media accounts

  6. Identify missed opportunities and react; bring ideas to the team from competitors, industry leaders and current events

Responsible for the media relations execution for four to six clients, with leadership, guidance and assistance from Director of Client Relations

  1. Thorough knowledge and utilization of AP Style

  2. Fully understand how to use all tools needed to do the job effectively and carry out all tasks (Meltwater, TV Eyes, Google Alerts, HARO, CoverageBook, etc.)

  3. Develop strong understanding and create/maintain great relationships with targeted trade and national media via email, phone calls, social media and in-person meetings

  4. Stay up to date with all news relevant to targeted clients; spend 1-2 hours a week maintaining strong familiarity with media, industry trends and current events and react appropriately to missed and new opportunities

  5. Secure trade, national, local and/or regional coverage for all client accounts, following goals set out with Account Strategist and direct supervisor

  6. Actively attend client events and on-site liaison for coordinating details as necessary; create influencer/media/attendance list

  7. Monitor competitor/industry media coverage and social media conversations about client topic and bring opportunities and trends to clients

  8. Follow all media personalities and industry influencers on social media platforms and engage to develop and maintain strong personal relationships

  9. Develop all PR-related materials and keep up to date and on server (including pitches, press releases, media lists, talking points, community opportunities, event collateral, bios, fact sheets, media kit, etc.)

  10. Media outreach via phone, email, calendar listings, and media drops

  11. Monitor editorial calendars for PR opportunities, and pitch as appropriate

  12. Assist in and attend media interviews and photoshoots onsite

  13. Monitor and capture all news clippings, as it happens, and send to client; keep media coverage chart current

Responsible for the overall meaningful partnership and community engagement opportunities for clients across two to four core accounts and as support for all client accounts where partnership opportunities may be relevant.

  1. Research and develop community partnership opportunities.

  2. Develop relationships with strategic partners for mutually-beneficial cross promotional opportunities and awards.

  3. Coordinate details of community and client events and partnerships.

  4. Collaborate with the Like Minds Communications social media team to share clients’ partnership and community engagement initiatives to ensure alignment with clients’ social media calendars.

  5. Responsible for gathering information and materials from clients and partners for seamless execution of all initiatives. Collaborate with Graphic Designer to create said materials if necessary.

  6. Submit award documents and gather materials for submission with final approval from the Account Strategist

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in public relations, influencer relations, partnership development and/or strategic communications!

  • A solid track record of building and maintaining media relationships nationally, across various industries and/or for mission-based organizations!

  • Your eyes constantly scouting the next big public relations trend!

  • Excellent writing capabilities and mastery of AP style!

  • The chops to bring a strategic vision to life in partnership with an integrated team!

  • Relationship-building prowess to connect with communities, networks and organizations in meaningful ways on behalf of clients!

  • A knack for developing media relations and community relations strategies and content that incite action!

  • The creative voice to craft masterful story angles and pitches!

  • One eye on big picture planning while the other eye tracks the details!

  • A demonstrated passion for mission-driven clientele and the impact marketing space!
